Who We Are

This website, darkcountry.app, is operated by Jesse Hull, professionally known as Dark Country Boy. When we say "we," "us," or "the Artist," that's who we mean. If you have questions about this policy, email us at hulljessej@gmail.com.

What We Collect and Why

We only collect information you voluntarily provide when submitting your story. Here's exactly what that includes:

Content Screening

All submissions are automatically screened using Google Gemini AI before being saved. This screening checks for nudity, spam, hate speech, AI-generated images, and other inappropriate content. Rejected submissions are not stored — the files are deleted and you are notified of the rejection reason. Screening logs (pass/fail status and flags) are kept for fraud prevention purposes.

How We Store Your Data

Your submission is stored as an encrypted JSON file and your photo/documents are stored in a private, access-controlled directory on our Hostinger hosting server (srv1010-files.hstgr.io). This directory is blocked from public web access via server configuration. Only the Artist can access submissions through the password-protected admin panel.

We do not use any third-party CRM, marketing platform, or database service to store your submission. It lives on our server only.

Who Sees Your Data

• The Artist (Jesse Hull / Dark Country Boy) — reads every submission personally through the admin panel
• Hostinger — our hosting provider stores the files on their infrastructure. Their privacy policy is at hostinger.com/privacy-policy
• Google (Gemini API) — your submission text and photo are sent to Google's Gemini API for content moderation screening. Google's data use policies apply to this processing. See ai.google.dev/terms
• Nobody else. We do not sell, share, rent, or trade your personal information with any third party for marketing purposes. Ever.

Email Communications

When you submit a story, you receive a single confirmation email. You will only receive additional emails from us if your story is selected — we'll email you the song link. We don't send newsletters, marketing emails, or promotional campaigns to submitters unless you separately opt in elsewhere.

Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Request a copy of the data we hold about you
• Request deletion of your submission — note that your consent record (name, IP, signature, timestamp) may need to be retained for legal compliance purposes even if other data is deleted
• Correct any inaccurate information we hold

To exercise any of these rights, email us at hulljessej@gmail.com with your full name, the email you submitted with, and your request. We'll respond within 30 days.

Cookies & Tracking

This website does not use tracking cookies, analytics cookies, or advertising pixels. The only session data stored is a temporary admin login session (server-side, expires when you close your browser). We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or any behavioral tracking.

Children

This website is intended for adults 18 years of age or older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If we become aware that a submission was made by someone under 18, we will delete it immediately.

Data Retention

We retain submissions indefinitely as long as they may be relevant to ongoing creative work. If your story becomes a song, records are retained for as long as that song exists publicly. If you request deletion of a submission that has not resulted in a song, we will honor that request promptly.

Security

Submission data is stored in a directory blocked from public access. Admin access requires a password. Uploaded files are MIME-type validated before storage. That said, no system is 100% secure — we take reasonable precautions but cannot guarantee absolute security.

Changes to This Policy

If we make significant changes to this policy, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

Governing Law

This policy is governed by the laws of the State of Oregon, United States.
